Oregon Country Fair

The Oregon Country Fair arises every year from wetlands outside Eugene, Oregon, for one long weekend bash with 50,000 people. The Country Fair, which started as a barter and craft fair in the late 1960s, offers an earthy mix of village atmosphere that harkens back to a prehistoric urbanity. Although generally considered a family event, it is pretty wild by puritan standards, has been described as "very hippy".

Country Fair has many stages and venues, each featuring a certain style of performance. One such venue is The Drum Tower where drummers from all over the world congregate. The drumming begins on Thusday morning and continues 24 hours a day until the fair closes.

The real event occurs after dark. Regular ticket holders are never allowed there at this time, entry is on invite-only. After hours the fair becomes fairly laid back so the vendors and families can enjoy what they miss during the day. The Midnight Show is an event on Saturday night that brings together the best acts from around the fair for the entertainment of those who work during the day.
