Riga international airport is located about eight miles (13km) southwest of Riga,
Latvia. Its identification letters are RIX. It is the largest arport in the
Baltic states, and is directly connected to 13 countries: Austria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Israel,
Russia, Great Britain, Lithuania, Poland, Finland, Ukraine,
Germany and Sweden.
Renovation and modernization of Riga ended in 2001, coinciding with the city's 800th
anniversary. The airport is a state-owned joint-stock
company, with the owner of all shares being the Latvian
government. The holder of state capital share is the Latvia's Ministry of Transport.
Riga is one of three airports in Latvia. the other two are Liepaja International Airport and Ventspils Airport. Riga's biggest air carrier is Air
Baltic.
