Testosterone spray

Testosterone spray, developed by the company Acrux, is a transdermal topical spray containing the sex hormone testosterone, intended to improve the libidos of women when applied to the abdomen. As of February, 2005, the spray has been tested in a clinical trial to determine its efficacy. The study, conducted by professor Susan Davis at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia, involved 261 premenopausal women with low levels of endogenous testosterone who were concerned by their diminished libidos.

Those who used the product reported an average of two more satisfactory sexual experiences per month than before the trial. Side effects included slight skin irritation and increases in body hair among some participants.

Although the results were considered encouraging, the spray is not expected to become available on the market for several years.
